January Newsletter

Welcome back to the stitch society blog!

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years and that the transition back into Uni wasn’t too tough. Hopefully you all took some well-deserved relaxation time after a stressful exam period

There’s been a few additions to our stitch committee over the holidays! We’d like to introduce our new social media manager Priyanka, as well as our new welfare officer, Kate. Over the festive period many of us have spent time on some makes that we thought we’d share with you in this blog

Starting off with cross stitch, our No 1 cross stitcher Niamh made some lovely presents for friends. Firstly she made the sweetest French bulldog keyring, to match her friends pet, isn’t he just the cutest!! (pattern by https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/702167828/frenchie-french-bulldog-cross-stitch).

As well as a character from the walking dead, Maggie. (pattern by https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/205311756/the-walking-dead-minis-cross-stitch).

Next I’ll include my own makes as I am writing this post (Kate). I’ve impressed myself slightly this January by creating many different pieces, probably the most I’ve ever made in such a short time!

I started off with the ‘Avery Top’ (pattern by https://youtu.be/CB0gWa1F5Pk) in a lilac colour, of course.

I also made a ‘raglan sweater’ (pattern by https://youtu.be/2w0Q3lRPSyk ) although a photo of this will not be included as I am yet to weave in the dreaded ends… However I would definitiely recommend this pattern as it is super easy and quick, compared to many other crochet jumpers out there.

After that I crocheted a corset top (pattern by https://youtu.be/fU_QrJ9zB-U) with a really fun sparkly yarn.

Finishing the month off with a few small pieces like earmuffs and a headband. I am officially out of wool after doing all that!

We also have an update on our group blanket project!

These are all the wonderful squares we have so far, we are making some great progress! If anyone would like to make a granny square during one of our events to contribute we would be thrilled! You can crochet or knit a square, we have all the materials for them and we would be happy to show you how if required.

Stay tuned on our social media to see upcoming events as we have something quite special planned for February.

Hope to see you and all your wonderful makes throughout the rest of the year!
